The Tetrapack lamp

We would like to show you how to create a designer lamp from old beverage cartons. The inventor of this ecological lamp is the Malaysian architect and designer Ed Chew. For the production, he was inspired by the folding technique of origami.

1. The disassembled tetra pack

Now cut out large strips and fold them into triangles.

2. The cardboard strips are folded into triangles

You connect the triangles to form pentagons and hexagons by folding another strip of cardboard over two sides.

3. Six triangles each make a hexagon and five triangles make a pentagon

You can then assemble the pentagons and hexagons to form a spherical lampshade.

4. The last pieces are inserted

But you can also let your imagination run wild and form a shape to your liking. Now put your finished construction over a light bulb.

5. Ed Chew with his creation

The lampshade consists exclusively of used beverage cartons. So what you need, apart from a lot of tetra packs, is a lot of patience and an exact way of working. The first thing to do is to cut the cardboard lengthwise and spread it out.

Et voilà, you have a lamp that will make your living room shine in a whole new light and will surely delight your visitors. Share a photo of your creation with us in the comments.
